The idea of casting Will Ferrell as the star of a Spanish-language comedy may sound slightlyloco in the cabeza at first glance, but the film, titled Casa De Mi Padre, is very real — and now it has landed a distributor. Pantelion Films has acquired the rights to director Matt Piedmont’s comedy and plans to release it in the U.S. on March 16, 2012.

An homage to telenovelas and old Westerns,Casa stars Ferrell as a Mexican rancher named Armando Alvarez who is dragged into the shady business dealings of his brother Raul (Diego Luna), landing them in war with a fearsome drug lord named Onza (Gael García Bernal). Further complicating matters, Armando also falls in love with his brother’s fiancee, Sonia (Génesis Rodríguez), along the way.

Despite the international star power involved, it had taken a little time to find a distributor willing to take a chance on such an unusual project.
